General Advice

Wildlife

The Western Cape is a treasure trove of wildlife, but it's also home to some potentially dangerous creatures like snakes. When hiking or exploring rural areas, stay on marked paths, wear sturdy boots, and keep a respectful distance from any wildlife you encounter.

Sunblock

The sun can be deceivingly intense in the Western Cape. Make it a rule to apply high SPF sunblock every two hours, and more often if you're swimming or sweating. Don't neglect areas like your ears and the back of your neck.

Money

Credit and debit cards are widely accepted. Cashless Tap&Pay is almost everywhere. Keep R200 as backup for rural areas.

Internet

You'll find reliable Wi-Fi in most cities and larger towns, often free in public spaces and accommodations. For more remote areas, it's worth investing in a prepaid local SIM card to stay connected.
